Authenticity & How We Verify

The most common question we get about Simplified Chinese Pokémon TCG is whether it's real. Short answer: authentic Chinese product is completely genuine licensed Pokémon TCG — but the category does attract counterfeits, and it's worth understanding why and how to tell.

Is Chinese Pokémon TCG official?

Yes. Simplified Chinese Pokémon TCG is the officially licensed Chinese-language release of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, printed for the mainland China market under licence. It has its own set numbering (the cs- and CBB- series), its own release schedule, and in many cases exclusive artwork that never appears in English print runs.

It is not a knock-off, a proxy, or a fan product.

Why counterfeits exist in this category

Counterfeiters target Chinese product precisely because most Western buyers can't read the packaging, don't recognise correct print quality, and can't identify a legitimate set code. That information gap is the opportunity. It doesn't make the genuine product any less genuine — it makes buying from a seller who checks worth paying for.

What we check before listing

  • Factory seals. Every sealed item is inspected for intact, correctly applied factory shrink-wrap. Anything with a compromised, replaced or resealed wrap is rejected outright.
  • Never weighed. Weighing packs to identify heavy hits, pulling them, then reselling the remainder is a real practice in this hobby. We don't do it and we don't buy from sources that do.
  • Set codes. Every product is matched against its genuine set code before listing — which is why our listings name the set (csv9.5C, cs6aC, CBB4) rather than vaguely describing it.
  • Print and finish. Card stock, foiling and cut quality are checked against known-genuine reference product.
  • Supply chain. We buy through established channels rather than open marketplaces where provenance can't be traced.

How to check for yourself

Whether buying from us or anyone else, these are the signals worth knowing:

  • The seller can name the set code. If a listing can't tell you which set a box is from, the seller doesn't know what they're selling.
  • The price makes sense. A sealed booster box priced below the value of the packs inside it is a warning, not a bargain.
  • "Factory sealed, never weighed" is stated explicitly. Its absence from a listing is informative.
  • UK stock with UK consumer rights. If something is wrong, you have enforceable rights against a UK seller. That's much harder with a direct overseas order.
